Anagha Navate

Anagha Nayate began volunteering with Heart House, about eight months ago, with her husband, Amol. They both came on a weekly basis and helped the staff with all of their administrative needs. Anagha has continued her volunteering with Heart House, and is now working directly with the children.

One of the main reasons that we wanted to highlight Anagha’s volunteerism at Heart House is because it has always been “behind the scenes.”  She has given over 40 hours of her time to help with the administrative needs of the staff at Heart House.  Her role has been very significant in helping the organization run smoothly by allowing the staff to focus on programming and coordinating. When the staff can focus on the needs of the program, the program succeeds.

One day, Anagha expressed her passion for creative art and expression. We were all excited to learn that she is not only a great administrative volunteer, but that she is also very gifted in art and decorating. “My inner child loves to express creatively through abstract feelings that can finally get let out!”  Anagha has been involved with several creative projects that all benefited from her artistic talents. The truth is that Anagha loves to color with crayons, which is making the transition from administrative work to direct care with the children, a seamless transition.

Anagha recently moved to Austin from Pune, India, which is a large town in Southern India. She is here because her husband, Amol is attending the University of Texas to obtain his PhD. in Computer Science. In her 10 months in Austin, she has enjoyed the budding independent film industry and the outdoor activities. She also enjoys cooking, reading, cartoons, and going to see movies.

When asked why she chose Heart House to volunteer, and what brings her back every week, she said, “ The kids, the staff, and the supportive environment makes it so much fun!”  We have been delighted to have Anagha as a strong member of the volunteer base at Heart House.

Now, Anagha is working directly with the children and getting to know all of them. She has a wonderful gift in understanding the needs of each individual child and remaining patient and friendly. Her positive attitude and dedication has been a gift for the volunteer program at Heart House.
