Natasha Johnson, Heart House Austin

Getting parents involved in an afterschool program can sometimes be a tricky thing, what with work schedules and hectic days. That is why we feel so fortunate to have one on our side here at Heart House Austin. And beyond that, she’s an amazing volunteer!

Natasha Johnson, born and raised in Austin, TX, is the mother of one of our Kindergarten students. Natasha came to us this past January because she wanted to be more involved with the Heart House program. She has since blown us all away by her level of commitment and dedication to the job. Natasha is very hard-working and extremely pro-active. Without being asked, Natasha always knows what she can do to help out, and does it to the best of her ability. She has helped us to design a weekly progress report to send out to parents, is always found scrubbing away at the end of the day during clean-up time, provides excellent supervision and homework help to the K-1st graders, and is always generous enough to ask what more she can do. Ms. Angela, the Program Leader with whom Natasha works, has been very impressed with Natasha’s hard work and generosity, and has certainly noticed the impact of her presence. 

Natasha very much values the time she gets to spend with her own kids; going on picnics, watching movies, doing arts and crafts, and exploring downtown. So it’s no surprise that what she loves most about her time here at Heart House is watching the kids enjoy themselves and actually being a part of that. Natasha put it best in her own words: “I enjoy working with kids and, knowing that a child may need help, being able to assist them. You cannot resist the love that the kids have for you. They really can brighten a person’s day!” We’re so pleased to have Natasha as part of our team. She has truly brightened all of our days!
