Bob Lessard
Bob
first discovered Heart House when he and fellow Single Volunteers of
Dallas came over one Saturday to help the City Central center with some
much-needed repairs and cosmetic appeal. There he met Executive
Director Suzanne Kiefer, and soon thereafter began volunteering to help
the children with the computer program.
"No
words can express the joy I receive from helping the children with the
computers at Heart House, " says Bob. "It has been the
most rewarding experience of my life. Heart House
is doing so much to improve the lives of disadvantaged children.
With such a great helpful staff!"
Says
Suzanne Kiefer, “Heart House Dallas can not express enough how grateful
we are to have Bob as a volunteer. He
is one of our most dedicated and consistent volunteers giving us three
days a week of his personal time. His
contributions to our computer literacy program are completely over and
above our expectations. Bob is
truly appreciated by all of the children and staff of Heart House
Dallas.”
When
asked what impressions Bob had of the Heart House children, he says,
"They are bundles of energy that need to be harnessed and guided in
the right direction through life. Hopefully, I will have at least a small
part in this endeavor."
Bob feels the computer program is an essential part of this goal.
"Because of the need for everyone to be computer literate now and in
the future, I hope that I can give them the opportunity to grasp how
important computers can and will be in their lives. I also hope to show
them how productive a computer can make them as well as how much fun they
can be!"

Through
Single Volunteers of Dallas, Bob is no stranger to community volunteering
-- he has worked on Habitat for Humanity projects, Our Children’s Store,
the Salvation Army and many other events. In addition, he and his church
have helped to feed the homeless at Austin Street Shelter.
Bob
is simply wonderful with the kids, and he is a natural, as seen by the way
they rush to greet him when he arrives. "The children at Heart
House may not have the opportunities that more affluent children have.
Therefore, knowing that I’m helping a child prepare for a future where
technology rules is the main reason I volunteer. That and the fact that
I’m learning just as much as the kids! Heart House is just simply so
rewarding for me!"
